So, let’s geek out for a moment…

For the record, after becoming a recent convert to a mac after having to use one for my job, I can say that I LIKE macs, don’t love them. Writing this post on a mac right now in fact, trying to kill some time before heading out to my tennis match.

Macs in itself are a unique product, sort of a mystery to me on why they have become so poplular. The main purpose of macs, and what it essentially boils down to, is just an alternative for PCs. You don’t want a pc? Buy a mac. Most users don’t know much about the technical side of computers so the only alternative to a pc is pretty much to just go to an apple store and drop whatever amounts of cash the salesperson says so that you walk out of there satisfied.

The thing is, macs are just UNIX systems, a linux based distribution that has been mocked up and packaged out at an extremely over priced model. For the record, popular linux services which are fun to use are COMPLETELY free to use and these days look just as good as OS or even better. Google Ubuntu if you’re interested.

Anyways, the thing that really bothers me about macs is that they try to dumb things down so that a non technical user could go in, use the mac to do whatever the hell they want and not have any issues. However, I’ve noticed that some things that should be so simple are just as much of a pain int he ass to run on a mac as they would be on a PC.

For instance, Quick Time. I recently put on a shitload of music and movies on someone’s hard drive and they have a mac so I wanted to plug it all in and make sure that it would work. So, I run quick time, and it says that there is some extra bs codec needed to install and run. So i then had to do a fierce google search to figure things out. Not as easy as some one might expect. blah.

I could go on, but for the sake of boorishness I digress. Anyways, if you have a mac and want to watch videos. download this.
