F*ck, man. What a year…

Words can’t even really provide comprehension to the whatthef*ckery that has been going down in 2015… WOAH WOAH WOAH reader, don’t think that is at all a bad thing.  Change is good, growth is good, God is good, toaster strudels are good.

There’s been many things that have changed in my world, but alas, I’m the same guy.  This blog archive is a parallel to that… same same, but different. I, nay, WE needed something new, something better and above all, a url that was easier to remember! Welcome to https://intuneontime.malbert.me/

Alas, the year has provided much muse for the personal and mental well-being for all of us. Pretty decent year!  Music-wise, there’s been a lot of new and old artists contributing to things.  Here’s the best music albums I found during my extensive journeys:

  1. Jamie XX – In Colour
Felt like this album is going to be a modern day classic, I really loved the diverse styles that were put on the album and how it progresses from a trip hop / IDM scene to more a poppy record towards the end. It reminds me of DJ Shadow’s debut “Entroducing” in a way, since the songs make you zone into them more and more as the album progresses.  In addition, the album had so much personal weight. Songs such as “The Rest is Noise” helped me get through a difficult decision this summer, and to me it spoke about the albums core focus and message – tune out the bullshit, focus on what is best for you, your future and what you enjoy.
  2. El Vy – Return to the Moon
As a huge fan of both the National and Menomena, it’s no wonder this album was right up my ally.  Each song on this album is amazing in it’s own right and held up to strong suits of what both Matt and Brett do best.  The song writing on this album I thought was really amazing and catchy as hell. Great lyrics and easy melodies are always a win in my book, and it also made me realize how great of musicians the pair are together and their contributions to their other projects. I’m surprised this album didn’t get as much critical acclaim, but some people just don’t know a good thing.
  3. The Underachievers –  The Everlong / The Art Of Duality
This album is by far one of the best underground albums I’ve heard in the past few years.  The production and double act personas taken on each half of the album were an interesting concept where I think no matter what state you’re in when listening, it’s relatable.  In addtion to that, the message and vibe of this album being both light and dark can empthaisze some either really positive energy. One of my favorite lyrics from the whole year was on t”Star Signs”  which I think was a huge resolve for me personally and helping me fight bullshit. It was great to see the growth taken on from this duo, and you can see how they’ve matured through their angst.
“Stop fronting, get up and get something
Sitting in one place, you bound to get nothing
Gotta work for it, it ain’t just gon’ come in
Pick up the pace, the competition running”
  4. Tanlines –  Highlights
Summer 2015 will basically be defined by this one.  Every song on this album is sunny, bright and catchy.
  5.  BadBadNotGood & Ghostface Killah – Sour Soul
I was never a huge fan of Ghostface before this album, however having BadBadNotGood’s cunning instrumentals as the production basis for this album, it really helped carve the focus and made me want to keep coming back to this album every few weeks.  This album was by far the most consistently listened to from the beginning of 2015 until the end.
